Smartscreen message during harvesting
The “Microsoft Defender” security system with the “Smartscreen” built into Windows has been blocking more and more SNH elements recently. The block is reported via a popup window and must be removed once before continuing. However, if this message appears during a harvest, it can interrupt the harvesting process.
SNH elements have been verified with a code signature since as early as 2019 to prevent this type of block from occurring. However, Windows Defender appears not to accept this certification at present.
Until the certification problem is resolved, the block can be circumvented when using SNH by entering the affected elements in the Windows Defender whitelist.
The Microsoft support site offers a suitable workaround: https://support.microsoft.com/de-de/help/4028485/windows-10-add-an-exclusion-to-windows-security
The following files should be added as exclusions (assuming the standard installation path was used):
- C:\Program Files\SocialNetworkHarvester\addins\imagemagic\convert.exe
- C:\Program Files\SocialNetworkHarvester\addins\Telegram\lighttpd.exe
- C:\Program Files\SocialNetworkHarvester\addins\youtube-dl\youtube-dl.exe
C:\Program Files\SocialNetworkHarvester\SNH.exe
